The Provincial Infection Control Network (PICNet) is committed to enhancing healthcare associated infection surveillance and practices in British Columbia.  This includes facilitating opportunities for health care professionals to collaborate on new initiatives as well as communicating best practice standards for surveillance. 

Healthcare-Associated Infections

CDI (Clostridium difficile infection)

MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)

Hand Hygiene Compliance

PICNet and the Health Authorities are working to monitor hand hygiene compliance across the province. Hand hygiene auditing data are currently being analyzed, with quarterly reporting to follow. In addition, PICNet is participating in the Provincial Hand Hygiene Program.

VRE (Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci )

PICNet will be working with the health authorities to evaluate the effects of changes in VRE policies that have occurred in some health authorities. Work is scheduled to commence in the fiscal year 2013/14.
